Are You Preparing First Time For IAS Prelims Exams?

Every year UPSC Prelims exams are attended by almost five lakhs candidates in our country. Although many fail to clear the prelims and reach the second stage mains, there is a lot of competition for the IAS exam from prelims to interview. 


Students who are attending or practising for the first time should know more about the basics of UPSC exams. Many may have a question, Can I clear the UPSC prelims on the first attempt? You can. Some Basics For IAS Prelims

First, know the basics about what are all the subjects in paper 1 and paper 2.


Paper 1 (200 marks): Current Events, Indian History, Geography, General Science, Environment, Indian Politics & Government, Economics and Social Development. 


Paper 2 (200 marks): Comprehensions, Interpersonal Skills, Logical Reasoning & Analytics, Decision making & Problem Solving, Basic Numeric knowledge, Data Interpretation, Comprehension in the English Language.


Note: Exams contain negative marks. You will lose one-third of the mark for one wrong answer, meaning if you write one correct answer and write three wrong answers, then your mark for all four questions is zero.


How To Clear UPSC Prelims In First Attempt?


Understand the UPSC Syllabus and Patterns

To understand the syllabus and patterns, go through previous year question papers, and also try to answer those questions. 


Reading Widely

According to the top IAS Academy, You have referred to multiple sources of books for the subjects. Some beginners will go through too many books and confuse themselves. Don’t go too much. 



Plan As Per The Time Left

Don’t waste your time, and do not waste your money too. Better read and save the time and buy books and save money. Look at the previous year's question papers and schedule your preparation plan.
